(Muhhyiddin knows, Sarawak is not only BN political Fixed Deposit, but as well as the potential National Economic Pillar. Anwar and Lim Guan Eng (Nik Aziz Nik Mat) know that. That's why the fight to coit this handsome Bujang Senang is now heating up!)
I had been going around the State during the past seven days. Though not directly involved in the current political campaign, but as a civil servant, my loyalty as defined by the General Order (GO) must be directed toward the prevailing Government. Thus I have to be around where my presence is most required. And in one of the occasions, I have the opportunity to whisper to Taib Mahmud, on certain matters that the Government must considered ie to attend to certain Urban Development gaps. He in principle agreed and made a remark: "Itu, biarlah CM baru buat nanti".
(2) When returning to Kuching, though I was very exhausted, I made a round the city. Everywhere, I saw posters of the opposition team, calling Sarawakian to Vote for a Change.
(3) Few close friends in Penisula Malaysia, have longing been asking me, who is going to take over from Taib as the next Chief Minister (CM). In my earlier article, I have indirectly anwsered such an interest. Now I would like to be more clearer in my analysis over the same matter.
(4) As I have said before, I strongly believe, Taib is a man of honor. He will honor his word at this time, though had not dictate the schedule, he will pass over the State leadership baton to someone. Again as I said, he is a man of legal background, definitely his handing over calculation will be based on political-legality. Right now, it is tough for him to name who. He has his political and legal calculation over the matter.
(5) Nonetheless, let us now look at those who are within his team: Masing (PRS), Mawan-Manyin (SPDP), George-Wong (SUPP), Jabu, Abang Zohari (Abg Jo), Adnan Satem, and Awang Tengah (PBB).
(a) Masing is a veteran leader among the Iban. He had hold various position in the State Cabinet. He had gone through the up-n-down of the SNAP/PBDS process. He is determine to bring greater and better life for the Iban. Basically, he is now tasked to transform the Iban Economy through capitalization of the Iban 'goddess' asset: the NCR land. My simple analysis, Taib have sort of assigning Masing to take care of the rural Miri-Bintulu-Sibu-Kapit region.
(b) Mawan, is also a senior Iban leader. With Manyin, a senior Bidayuh leader, both of them have a great chance to bring better development to the Iban-Bidayuh areas not served by Masing group. both Mawan and Manyin had been given the training to lead various State Ministeries previously. Mawan-Manyin, could play a good role in nurturing the much modern Iban-Bidayuh in the urban and peri-urban areas. Mawan-Manyin should be able to take care of the Iban-Bidayuh interest on the Southern part of Sarawak: Betong-Sri Aman-Samarahan-Kuching.
(c) George Chan, he is among those who are very senior in Taib Cabinet. He has the responsibility to take care of those Chinese interest in the Northern part of Sarawak: Bintulu-Miri-Limbang. He basically had played his role well, and Miri in particular had catchup nicely with the development either in the Central and Southern Sarawak. Miri is slowly being transformed into a Tourism City with the hinterland being developed into ocean of oil palm plantation. Bintulu on the other hand has been quickly transformed into the State Industrial City. Lately, he also had declared his interest to retire soon, thus I would believe he had groom new blood to take over from him.
(d) On the other hand, Wong Soon Koh, is tasked to take care of the Chinese interest in the Central Region: Sibu-Sarikei-Meradong. Based on the industrial transformation in Sibu, from timber to ship building and now into plantation development which had triggered even a greater Vision of Sibu 2020.
(e) Jabu, is the most senior among those in Taib present Team. He come from the same front with Taib, under the PBB ie the Pesaka component. In term of experience, I would say, he is the most experienced one among the State Ministers. Nonetheless, all these while, Jabu portfolio had always being related to rural development. Now he is handling infrastructure related development, he definitely had served especially the rural Iban within the Betong-Sri Aman region with great contribution. The Iban must also recognized Jabu as the one who had been working hard to bring all sort of agriculture commodities development: paddy, pepper, rubber, and now oil palm. DOA and SALCRA is his favorite 'kids' in progressively changing the Iban subsistence lifestyle. Most important, I would say, Jabu is very sentimental of those hard days of RASCOM, Btg Ai, Penan Blockade, etc. He had served the State well in trying to resolve those tricky issues.
(f) Adnan Satem, is another well experienced leader within the PBB. He had hold various State Ministries, and also a short experience at the Federal cabinet. Adnan used to be Taib trouble shooter, and he is well known for his 'brutal' but simple and pragmatic style. I enjoy his working style. Despite his up-n-down in politic, he is loyal, persistence and patience. He is well tested.
(g) Abang Zohari (Abg Jo), is considered as Sarawak Malay aristocrat, but he bring himself well among all walks of live. Being the son of the late Tun Abang Haji Openg and as well related to Tuanku Haji Bujang (all were ex-governors), he is well look up by the Malays. Not only that, he had been well tested since his inception, have also experienced the up-n-down in the State politic, he remained loyal, persistence, and patience. He is now tasked to handle the Urban Disadvantage Group especially those associated with bad neighborhhood-social illness issues.
(h) Awang Tengah, is among the fast moving among his peers. Coming from Lawas, while all the others key PBB are from the South, Tengah had been given the task to transform especially Limbang-Lawas. Particularly in Lawas, he had worked hard and succeed well despite the isolation nature of this region. Tengah seem to be Taib 'blue boy'. He is a trouble shooter. He used to work closely with Adnan and Abg Jo. He now is a close partner to Jabu to really achieve greater infrastructure and utilities out reach to every span of the State. During some political turbulent, Tengah sometimes got the heat, and he seem to be able to adjust well.
(6) Definitely there are younger line-up in the present Taib Team. He had also infused more younger professional bloods into his Team. This group of younger leaders, they should patiently learn and work hard. Let them not forget Musa Hitam, Anwar Ibrahim, and even Khairy Jamaluddin impatient experienced.
(7) Based on such calculation, I would say, Taib intended departure should not create any worries among the Sarawakian. He had nurtured his Team. Politically they have been tested. None of them seem to be as good as Taib, but that is normal, especially when the boss is still around. They are just loyal and obedient 'smaller' leaders. They will shine, when the time come. Basically, Taib had sailed his Political Ship well with one-and-only-one juragan!
(8) Taib had coached his Team on various State Development Agendas and Strategies. He had continuously lead oversea trips with his Teammates. He also had been with them in formulating great State Development Agendas. He shown them on how to deal with big and small investors, either among the locals or foreigners.
(9) To me, setting a Team of Leaders is one thing, but giving the Team the real development planning and management experience is the essence or prime duties of a leadership. Taib had done both. He had done those well.
(10) As I have said, let his departure be facilitated with a smooth and orderly leadership and economic development plan handing over. In this regard, he must be bit farewell with a Feel Good Retreat. Let honor his departure just like we had honored Dr. mahathir Mohammed. There is no need to push him hard to step down. He has made his announcement, so let respect him to pass the baton on a fatherly basis.
(11) Let all those development gaps that Taib had overlook or purposely kept aside, be handle by the next leadership and us as a whole. I don't believe, and it is very stupid of us to expect Taib to be a perfect man. As a Muslim, there will never be any further perfect person after Muhammad SAW, thus Taib must just be honored as his nature of beng a normal human being. He had done to his limit, and for us to carry on from where he leave. Otherwise we should never be around!
(12) In fact, Sarawakian in particular should see ourselves not only as the Barisan Nasional (BN) political Safe Deposit, but, as Taib had always said, Sarawak will soon be the Richest State in Malaysia. Personally, I would not only agree with his statement, but if we are smart, Sarawak not only will be the Richest State, but we would be the Pillar to the National Economy. Just name it, what is it that Sarawak don't have: oil, gas, timber, land , water bodies, coal, strategic locality to the Far East Economy, etc. We just don't have the population, but that not the critical issue as long as we know how to manage our economy.
(13) Taib didn't said it well, when he many times said: "There are people who are jealous about Sarawak would be the Richest State". To me what he meant is that, they are those ignorance internal heads and hands that being used by external heads and hands to robe Sarawak for their own 'hidden agendas'. Sarawakian must be mindful of this. We should don't mind to share our wealth, but we must share those wealth at no cost (no lost) to Sarawakian. We must not let those hands and heads to siphon or robe Sarawak's wealth for them to buy (win) over other State, rather using those wealth for our State development and advancement.
(14) The Malays-Muslims in particular, and all the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulus in general, let me draw all of us to our folk story ie Pak Kaduk in Malay, and Apai Salui in Iban: "Menang sorak, kampung tergadai".
(15) Let us now take both Leo Moggie and Pairin Kitinggan about how they have seen their past political mistakes. They sort of regretting being too much politicking. They wish, they should have focused on the issue of working hard to up lift the quality of life of their people. Do we need to hear this from Danial Tajjim, Dominic, Chong, or even Baru Bian at the later stage. Will that not be too late? Why are we Sarawakian, can't just work within the true Sarawakian spirit....baka menyadik, sekaban, segulai...ndak belayak, kiruh nadai tentu pasal!
