(Nice to have ducks running around. At least they lay eggs, and that good to make salted eggs. Roastered duck taste good. If we know how to think, even ducks can give us tons of gold. Thus a Kampung lives still could be made great if we know how to think and act, not something to be ashamed off or look down at! (2) Las Vegas: what a different a good layout, facade, color and landscape can make.)
Couple of days ago, I drove around Kuching Greater City: Santubong, Matang Jaya-Batu Kawa (MJC), Siburan, Sentosa, then Kota Samarahan-Bako. All these areas in fact are coming into better development. The Government is gearing for better roading, drainage and sewerage systems, while the Private sector are hurrying to get all the properties on spin. In some places, the DBKU, DBKS, MPPP and MDKS are doing lots of landscaping works.
(2) I hope soon the ever congested road at Jalan Sultan Tengah and Jalan Tabuan-Samarahan would be over come with the expansion of those roads which currently seem to pick up well. This not only would ease the early morning troublesome that parents and commuters need to face, but, I would say giving the feeling good driving mood to all either to reach their working places or back homes. This feeling good state: relief of time and energy wastage, is very important if ones understand the few hidden factors that could contribute to higher national productivity.
(3) The Samarahan-Siburan-Sentosa enclave, I would say is the fastest growing properties development area in the State. Much better housing and commercial design fabric are coming up, and these I would figure out as a new realization among the developers to built something that would push Kuching into a much vibrant and colorful city of the 21st Century. All these while we had been flooded with boxes of very 'rock solid' ambient that seem to turn Kuching into the 1940s of London and Chicago type of Development.
(4) Even months ago I have been travelling to Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri, I could sense, there are elements of good feeling began to infuse into all these smaller township development. Even places as far as Lawas also had been undergoing slow but steady growth.
(5) To me all these slow but steady growth had something to do with the slow and steady growth of the overall Sarawak population (as well as their Income Growth)which tagged at 2-2.3 percent annually. With such a slow population growth, definitely, Sarawak properties market would also be of slow but on steady demand.
(6) Under such socio-economic backdrop, I would believe why Taib Mahmud (Pehin Sri) seem to favor much bigger Companies to do much of the properties development in the State ie to cushion against the various economic uncertainties thus avoiding the possibilities of Abandoned Projects Syndrome that seem to flourish in Peninsula Malaysia when there is an economic or financial chaotic.
(7) Years back, I have been very concern about our city design. I have been forcing those interested to do properties development with our Organization to change their building layout, facade, even color, and landscaping elements to reflect a much soothing environment that not only would give a good living and shopping ambient but most important to give real lives to all the development that been undertaken. My concern was (and is) to ensure we emulate a development that would nurture and sustain a United, Healthy, and Prosperous living, working and recreational places. Can't we have an ambition to build the Most Livable City in Malaysia or South East Asia, such as Manhattan, Denver or Seattle in North America?
(8) In fact I can't understand the attitude of our greedy and stingy developers who only want to develop things that they could sale (dispose), without the concern to the sustainability of future business and livelihood of those properties buyers. After making lots of money and doing hard jobs, they flew off to take good vacation at good places such as Bali, Perth, Paris, Venice, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, London, Los Angeles, etc and yet when they work to develop our cities, they are developing all the concrete prisons: to imprison their mind and soul!
(8) How on earth, all these while we allowed these to happen: built bad cities at home, made great money, and enjoy those earning elsewhere and continue to dirty our own back yard. What a stupid, ignorance, stingy and greedy attitude that we have! May Allah make these people who are just money concern to live longer so that they can see and enjoy their results of their 'bad minds, hearts, and hands'!
(9) Same goes, with those who once were mere Kampung boys/girls, now, they being city boys/girls, seem to enjoy all those city delight and began to forget and ignore to build their own Kampung. Thinking or assuming there are nothing in the Kampung except: ayam-itik berkeliaran, kambing mengembek, mandi air perigi, tidur malam diratah nyamuk, jiran tetanga yang malas-malas (Malays)! What a nice thought: a real kacang lupakan kulit!
(10) I do hope, everyone of us understand the broader meaning of such phrases as: sustainable (business) development, nation building, care for the people, customer friendly, and surely serving (not only praying) Allah the best!
(11) My simple proposition: let us really be daring enough to push all effort to really make us appreciate this State. Sarawak is our homeland, and let build Sarawak to our best interest. Thought Perth (I love Changsa (Pasir panjang) better than Perth!) is great, but Perth is not ours, and forever it will never be ours. So why pray for Perth and dirty our own cities with all those bad greedy developments! I don't see any good for such a thinking and effort. Let love and build our State for the greatness of our people. May Allah open our mind, and heart and made our struggle for such to serve Him better.
